WETTBEWERBSBEITRAG BRISE-VENT

“It's our future.” Our contribution to the Brise Vent competition in Le Havre does not design the result, but the process. We see this as the future: our approach creates a space in which progress is actively shaped and negotiated, as flexible and dynamic as the future itself.

A central museum and information centre organises seven Impact Yards, which serve as platforms for future-oriented projects and continuously adapt to new topics. The architecture relies on circular design, which innovatively integrates local traditions and the reuse of materials. In the tradition of the medieval masons' lodge, building here is an ongoing process – the Port de l'Avenir will never be “finished”, but will constantly evolve, like our future.

The open form of the competition and the central condition: No demolition!!! appealed to us. It was an opportunity for us to formulate convictions and design approaches in the competition entry. We are designers, not bound by old building practices, and therefore have an unbiased approach to architecture. It seems obvious to us that planning processes for a circular design can no longer be linear and that the practice of tendering also originates from a post-circular time.

We would, of course, like to congratulate the winners of the competition (they chose another approach altogether) and are very excited about the future of Brise Vent.
